North of the Boarder Surf Comp (part 1)

(sorry about the amount of photos = slow loading of the page)

Our North of the Boarder surf Competition in Crantock was a fantastic success. Loads of competitors (and they were very competitive!), great weather (a sunny day surrounded by cloudy days) and some surf after days and days of it being flat. The timing of the day couldn't have been planned better! An early start for several NT staff setting up the gazebo, the PA system, and getting everything ready for the 8.30 start.

The groups were split into girls under 16, girls under 14, boys under 16 and boys under 14, with each heat taking 20 minutes. There were three or four competitors in each heat and during the 10 minutes they had to try to catch the best waves for the score.

Crantock is a great location for this type of event, with a wide clean beach, waves rolling straight in and a massive beach at low tide. very family friendly and even in the height of the summer season it never feels too busy.....

The day finished with a results roundup and grand prize giving with some fantastic homemade driftwood trophies going to those that did it on the day.... results to follow in part 2.....

(A big thank you to our event sponsors alder sportswear, the RNLI life savers that were visible and about all day, all the NT staff from all over Cornwall who have planned and help run the event and to the beach cafe at Crantock that supplied an ice-cream and snack van for us - and of course, all the competitors who came down and got involved - it was great to see so many down there)
