In mighty milk cartons do dormice rest (hopefully!)

At least not all tetra packs end up as landfill. Here at Stowe we’ve been converting our milk cartons into dormouse nest tubes. The tubes will be put to use in various locations to see if we have dormice living on our patch. If we are lucky enough to find positive signs then we’ll organise a more permanent set up and monitor our furry friends regularly throughout the summer. At the moment dormice are hibernating, usually under hazel coppice stools and won’t make an appearance until late April or May dependant on the weather. So if you see a milk carton moving in the trees when walking the dog, it’s alright it’s meant to be there and try ignore that idle curiosity you will feel to check if there is anything in there!
