Cider duty increase condemned by National Trust | The Guardian

Today, Sunday 28th march 2010, tax on cider goes up. This has upset many people in the west country, where cider is often the desired drink , and where there are many cider producers, both large - producing industrial amounts, and small farmhouse producers that sell it from the roadside.

BUT apart from upsetting this group of producers and drinkers, there is another angle on the 10% rise on duty on cider, as the National Trust has commented on in The Guardian.

The cider duty increase has been condemned because it is thought the knock on effect could threaten plants, birds and other wildlife in orchards across the region.....
